Director MJ Loheed studied film at Vassar College and graduated in 1992. Over the course of the next 10 years he moved to Western Massachusetts, Las Vegas, and Chicago before finally settling in Los Angeles where he took up residence in New Line Cinema's post-production department. He then left to found Spootwerks a specialized editing boutique which he ran with his friend Eddie Schmidt until 2001.
For the past few years Loheed has been producing and/or editing high quality reality television programs such as "The 5th Wheel" "American Candidate" "Late World With Zach" and MTV's "You've Got A Friend." Like many of Poker's new devotees Loheed's interest in poker began in 1989 after he saw Johnathon Dahl's film "Rounders." Which was followed by Loheed losing quite a bit of money at a $1-2 Hold 'Em game at Commerce Casino. Never one to give up Loheed started a cheap home game which has blossomed into The Silver Lake Card Club an 85 player strong poker club with a weekly game and a monthly no-limit tournament. Loheed was the SLCC's first points champion in 2004. He describes his poker abilities as, "somewhere between intermediate and pretty good, which is just enough to get myself in trouble." \In addition to being a place to learn poker Loheed's game was a cauldron of young people trying to make it in Hollywood and a place where good conversation could always be found. It wasn't long before Loheed realized that a film was unspooling in front of him every week and it was only a matter of time before the script for "Freeze Out" came bubbling out in early 2003. "Freeze Out" is Loheed's first feature film. He hopes to follow up with an independently made Godzilla style monster movie.
